Patchwork Summer – Original Oil Painting by Navy Sloth

There’s something lovely about a summer landscape, warm fields, big open skies, little trees dotted along the hedgerows, and that feeling that the whole countryside has come alive.

Patchwork Summer is my colourful, slightly dreamlike take on those familiar British countrysde views. Inspired by the patchwork fields stretching across the landscape, I’ve brought the scene to life with bright, joyful colours, interesting textures and loosely drawn details, turning an ordinary summer view into something a little more magical.

The rounded trees and playful shapes give the painting a gentle, storybook quality, while the warm colours capture that wonderful feeling of being out in the countryside on a bright summers day, with nowhere particular to be and plenty of time to wander.

For me, it’s about the simple happiness of summer in the countryside, those familiar landscapes that feel comforting and timeless, and the little moments when you stop, look around and think, this is a lovely place to be.
