Golden Fields – Gentle Giants
Original artwork by Navy Sloth
There’s something about watching the countryside roll past a car window that stays with you. As a child, I loved gazing out at the fields, watching fluffy white clouds drift overhead and wondering about the places we were passing through.
Golden Fields – Gentle Giants grew from those memories, but with a little twist.
Golden fields stretch beneath a huge blue sky, with soft white clouds floating overhead and three great wind turbines standing tall amongst the landscape. I’ve always found something strangely beautiful about wind turbines. They’re enormous and a little bit imposing, but there’s something graceful about them too — almost as if they’re quietly watching over the fields below.
They certainly have a Marmite effect. Some people love them, some people really don’t, but for me they’ve become part of the changing landscape of the countryside.
This painting is about that feeling of looking out across a familiar landscape and noticing something new within it. The old and the new sitting side by side, golden fields and gentle giants beneath an enormous summer sky.
There’s a little bit of childhood nostalgia here, a little bit of curiosity and a whole lot of sunshine. I hope Golden Fields – Gentle Giants gives you that same feeling of looking out of a car window and wondering where the road might take you next.
