Navy Sloth Paintings – Wildflower dreams
Wildflower dreams is my latest painting to make the collection. It’s an abstract floral painting created using a delicate selection of oil paints. I wanted to really explore different techniques in order to truly capture the essence of being amongst wildflowers. In the process it seems my final piece has taken on a romantic dream like appearence. It’s fun and vibrant yet soft and delicate , and certainly whimsical!
The process
It’s a step away from my previous floral paintings where I would use my drip technique for the majority of the image. Even though my drip paintings are free-moving, full of movement and texture I wanted my new painting to feel messy. I wanted my new piece to feel alive and as realistic as possible but maintaining an abstract element. So I opted for an abstract expressionist approach which has surprised me and surpassed my expectations.
My style
I was never going to produce a detailed accurate representation of wildflowers. Even with my degree in illustration I’ve always been drawn to abstracts. However, my latest floral style allows me to combine my drip technique with wild movements and rough floral outlines. In an amusing turn of events my abstract expressionist style is somewhat illustrative, wouldn’t you say?

So, could this be the painting for you? Well if you have good taste and a wall then you’re on the right track. All jokes aside, Wildflower dreams would happily become a focal point in any room and fill it with joy and calmness. It would ideally be placed in the living room, hallway, bedroom or even conservatory. Also suitable for a boutique hotel, coffee shop or restaurant environment.
