Navy Sloth Paintings – The Darkside
I was inspired by one of my favourite artists Gerhard Richter when I created The Darkside. I love the way he effortlessly creates paintings by dragging paint across a canvas, allowing colours to mingle. He’s very precise and a perfectionist, even though his work looks chaotic to the untrained eye.
For the darkside, I used a credit card and dragged layers of thick oil paint down the canvas allowing the different colours to spread without mixing. It was a long process as I had to allow each layer to dry before continuing to prevent the colours mixing. I then began dragging the sides of the credit card down through the paint, forming textured lines down the work.
The Dark side represents the need for change, bringing light and clarity into focus.
