Fierce – Abstract Drip Painting by Navy Sloth

Fierce is my latest abstract drip painting, and it’s been quite the wild ride to create. Over the past few weeks, this piece went through countless transformations—colour changes, compositional shifts, and moments of pure chaos. But that’s the beauty of the creative process, right?

In the end, Fierce is a powerful, bold piece that bursts with energy. Hundreds of individual oil droplets fall strategically onto the canvas, amidst layers of textured paint. The result is a dynamic and fiercely expressive work of art.

The Process

The journey began with a neutral palette of buff titanium, Naples yellow, gold, and a splash of orange. Despite layering and adding complimentary colours, it just didn’t give me the “happy painting” feeling I was after. After several attempts and a what have I done? moment (trust me, it was dramatic!), Fierce emerged with a bold new palette that felt full of energy, fierceness, and luck.

The End Result

One seemingly wrong move—adding rich green, mysterious greys, and black—completely transformed the painting, and I couldn’t be more excited by the outcome. Completing this piece felt like lighting a fire within me, and I hope that whoever brings Fierce into their space will feel that same burst of energy and satisfaction every time they look at it.
