Navy Sloth Paintings – Year of the Dragon
Year of the Dragon is my latest abstract drip painting to add to the Navy Sloth collection. This painting has driven me crazy the past few weeks having changed colour and composition way too many times. It’s a classic drip painting, Hundreds of individual oil paint droplets fell strategically into place amongst layers of dragged textured paint.
The process
Firstly, my painting started off with a neutral colour scheme of buff titanium, naples yellow and gold with a splash of orange. However, no matter how many layers I added or complimentary colours introduced it just didn’t bring me that happy painting feeling. So after several layers and a moment of madness involving a “what have I done?” with a look of despair on my face, the year of the dragon imerged from a dramatic bold palette of fierceness and luck.
The end result
One wrong move not only introduced the rich shades of green to the canvas, but also the mysterious grey and black to the finished piece. As a result, this painting excited me like no other painting ever has. Furthermore, completing it made me feel full of energy and a real sense of artistic satisfaction , I felt on fire!
YEAR OF THE DRAGON – WHO SHOULD RENT IT?
- Anyone who loves contemporary art and abstract paintings;
- This vibrant energetic piece would look great in any area of your home – it’s a real statement piece!;
- Any work place – art can be an uplifting, positive addition for any working environment.
- Of course it would also look great on a hotel wall, either in the lobby, cocktail lounge or as a series for their rooms (I’m happy to discuss commission pieces to accompany this style);
