Navy Sloth Paintings – Time is my greatest fear
Movement paintings like time is my greatest fear are so much fun to do which is reflected in the piece.
Time is my greatest fear has to be the most challenging modern abstract oil painting I have ever created. It took 3 months to create from the many layers that had to be left dry before adding the next.
I created the movement painting by pouring oil paint onto the canvas, tilting it in several directions creating a web of colour and eventually texture. Several colours were added and allowed to freely move and mingle creating new and exciting shades. Even though it’s a free flowing piece, there is still thought behind the composition until it reaches it’s perfection.
Movement paintings are messy processes, taking ages for each layer to dry as the canvas is saturated throughout each stage. The end product, a deep, vibrant explosion of reds, pinks and oranges on canvas board.
I love the cracks that appeared over time in the paint, they add so much character and charm. I guess they remind me of getting old, and how time changes everything.
