Navy Sloth Paintings – Smile Though Your Heart Is Aching
One of my greatest artistic achievements is the painting titled “Smile Though Your Heart is Aching.” Every time I look at it, I am transported to a place of happy memories mixed with a tinge of sadness for loved ones who are no longer with us. This abstract drip painting is a combination of yellow, purple, black, white, and blue oil paint.
To create this piece, I allowed individual droplets of paint to fall haphazardly onto the canvas until I achieved the desired effect. I then added a technique called paint dripping involving tilting the canvas , letting the paint flow down until it came to rest. The resulting lines of paint crashing through the droplets create a chaotic, yet beautiful effect that captures the eye and sparks the imagination. A reminder that we cannot always control the direction of our lives, but we can find beauty in the chaos.
As I continued to add more droplets of paint, I was reminded of tears falling, and how barriers can be removed to reveal one’s true emotional state. The painting reflects the journey of life, with its ups and downs, and the emotions that we experience along the way. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest of times, we can find reasons to smile and be grateful.
The finished product
The completed painting has a calming effect, despite its initial appearance of chaos. It’s like walking through an enchanted forest. Lost in thought, where every step takes you deeper into the magic. The balance of tones and movement complement each other perfectly in this triptych piece, creating a harmonious whole.
I named this Jackson Pollock inspired painting “Smile Though Your Heart is Aching”. The song actuallypopped into my head on completion. The emotional wave that came over me was overwhelming, and tears streamed down my face. This abstract painting holds a special place in my heart. I hope that whoever purchases it will love it as much as I loved creating it. It’s truly one of a kind and will bring a smile to your face.
